Multiplexing is a way of sending several messages along one optical fibre at the same time without them becoming muddled.
Frequency division multiplexing sends each message on a different frequency carrier wave (different colours of light in an optical fibre).
Time division multiplexing sends chunks of each message in turn (M1, M2, M3, M1, M2, M3 etc)
