Noise

*
*

A noisy signal is one that has become corrupted (damaged).

This can either be because of problems with the hardware (eg because of attenuation in a fibre) or because extra signals have been added to it (eg background 'hiss' in the receiver).

Noise gives a message that is difficult to understand (a radio sound may be may be crackly or a TV picture may be ‘snowy’).
